Henry Yampolsky, Bridge board member and Assistant Director for Education, Outreach, and Conflict Resolution in the Office for Equity and Accessibility at Virginia Tech, will present his model for "Dis-Solving Conflict From Within" based on his best-selling book by the same title. Gain clarity, decrease anxiety, and experience ease in conflict! Dis-Solving Conflict from Within™ is a simple, mindful, and transformative tool for responding to conflict and other life’s challenges with strength, confidence, and clarity. Using a simple breathing technique along with guiding questions and affirmations, it teaches one to connect with a deep sense of peace within which is independent of circumstances. The experience of inner peace empowers people to stop reacting to outside triggers and regretting their reactions. This transforms conflict into an opportunity for growth, connection, and dialogue.
This highly interactive workshop introduces the participants to a powerful, mindfulness-based conflict coaching tool. This tool is designed to empower one to respond to conflict with strength, clarity and compassion as opposed to reacting to it with fear, avoidance, or aggression. This workshop will also invite the participants to introduce trauma awareness, mindfulness, and compassionate communications practices into their work as human service professionals and will discuss how these practices can be transformative for a wide-range of cases, clients, and settings including: conflict resolution, coaching, counseling, social work, and mental health. Other topics covered in this workshop will include:
· Understanding conflict from a trauma-aware perspective;
· Differentiation between reaction and response in conflict and how to move towards a response;
· Exploration of four principles of conflict transformation;
· Using trauma-aware and mindfulness practices to deal with highly charged and/or “unresolvable” conflicts; and
· Connecting trauma awareness and mindfulness and with inclusion and equity in human services
All participants will receive a signed copy of the trainer’s book, Dis-solving Conflict From Within: An Inner Path for Conflict Transformation.
